Jamie M. Bogle, Au.D., Ph.D., is the Division Chair of Audiology at Mayo Clinic Arizona and an Assistant Professor of Audiology at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science. She earned her Doctorate of Audiology (AuD) and PhD from the University of Colorado at Boulder and was awarded the James and Martha Crawford Endowed Clinical Research Fellowship in Otolaryngology at Mayo Clinic Florida.
Clinically, Dr. Bogle evaluates children and adults with dizziness and imbalance due to peripheral and central conditions. She is interested in improving the diagnostic tools available for evaluating patients across the lifespan to better understand inner ear function in both typical and disordered patients. Her research interests include the integration of visual and vestibular information in individuals with neurological impairments, including concussion and migraine, and the improved understanding of the importance of vestibular gravito-inertial information into overall body function.

Nick Brokaw, an attorney and partner at Sacramento Advocates, brings a nuanced understanding of state government, well-honed advocacy skills and a pragmatic, problem-solving approach to serving his clients. His practice encompasses legislative, policy, regulatory, and procurement matters. A second-generation lobbyist, Nick’s entry into state politics traces back to 2006, when he wrote for Capitol Weekly, a non-partisan news publication covering California government and politics.
Prior to joining Sacramento Advocates, Nick was a corporate attorney at the Los Angeles office of an international law firm, where he
counseled a range of companies, from start-ups to hedge funds and Fortune 100 corporations, in white-collar government investigations, multi-jurisdictional class action defense work and sports-related intellectual property matters.
Before beginning his legal career, Nick served as a political strategist and consultant for a tribal nation, where he represented the tribe on political, public policy and grassroots issues at the local, state and federal level. He has also worked on statewide and federal campaigns, and spent a summer in law school working for the Golden State Warriors as the organization initiated its effort to build a new arena in San Francisco. Nick earned his B.A. from UC Santa Barbara, where he graduated summa cum laude. He holds a law degree from UC Berkeley School of Law (Boalt Hall), where he served as the Editor-In-Chief of a law review, Vice President of the law school’s chapter of the American Constitution Society, and co-founded a national law conference that continues to this day.

Dr. Dennis Colucci has been an audiologist for 50 years with experience in clinical, industrial, military, and forensic audiology. For the past 25 years, as part of his practice, he has been a forensic audiologist, opining in more than 75 cases involving children and adults, including testifying in depositions and trials.
His areas of expertise include product liability, malpractice, acoustic trauma/blast injuries, noise-induced hearing loss, ADA, head and neck trauma, wrongful death claims, and more. Cases include United Airlines, City of Santa Ana, 3M, US Department of Justice, San Diego Unified School District, Geico, Southwest Airlines, Southern California Edison, JFK University, Kaiser, and Union Pacific Railroad. Dr. Colucci consulted for various Fortune 500 companies and government agencies, including British Petroleum and Chevron refineries, the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station, the City of Los Angeles, Weyerhaeuser, and others. He developed the first fetal noise protection protocol in the oil industry in 2000. In recent years, Dr. Colucci has performed over 1000 medical disability examinations for the VA. He has written over 50 educational articles in the Hearing Journal, was the guest speaker at the Fellows of the Howard House Foundation, and presented various papers at AAA and ASHA. As a nationally recognized expert witness in audiology, Dr. Colucci brings unparalleled authority and experience to complex legal cases. Shari Eberts is a passionate hearing health advocate and internationally recognized author and speaker on hearing loss issues. She is the founder of Living with Hearing Loss, a popular blog and online community for people with hearing loss, and an executive producer of We Hear You, an award-winning documentary about the hearing loss experience.
Her book, Hear & Beyond: Live Skillfully with Hearing Loss, (co-authored with Gael Hannan) is the ultimate survival guide to living well with hearing loss. Shari has adult-onset genetic hearing loss and hopes that by sharing her story, she will help others to live more peacefully with their own hearing issues. Cochlear Implants: Updates to Candidacy and Music Research

Melanie (Luci) Gilbert, Au.D. researched cochlear implants (CIs) and music perception at the UCSF Music and Sound Perception Lab (2016-2024; PI: Charles Limb, MD). She completed an AuD at Vanderbilt University with an externship at UCLA (2012). She previously worked in the research and development group at Advanced Bionics (2012-2015), focusing on novel sound processing strategies, objective programming measures, and sound cleaning features.
Dr. Gilbert taught the CI course for the AuD program at the University of the Pacific (2016-2020, 2022), served as the President of the California Academy of Audiology (2022), and has offered remote CI programming/consultations through The Hearing Solution.
She will play pickleball with anyone, anywhere, and will relentlessly talk about canoe camping for the duration.

Jiong "Joe" Hu, PhD, AuD, CCC-A, F-AAA, earned his Bachelor of Science in physics from Nanjing University in China. He became
interested in the field of audiology and continued his education at Ohio University where he earned his Doctor of Philosophy in 2013, and his Doctor of Clinical Audiology in 2016. He joined the University of the Pacific faculty in 2015.
Dr. Hu is a member of the American Academy of Audiology. His primary research interests are auditory electrophysiology and neuroplasticity. Most recently his research has focused on examining the impact of bilirubin-induced neurotoxicity on the auditory system in newborns and infants, as well as the effect of long term auditory exposure on pitch coding ability at the brainstem level in adults with different language backgrounds.

Delia Karahalios has been dedicated to improving functional hearing and communication for Veterans with a wide range of auditory deficits for 15 years with the Department of Veterans Affairs. She is currently honored to serve as the Audiology Section Chief at VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System.
Delia's areas of clinical practice include Aural Rehabilitation, Central Auditory Processing Disorders, Tinnitus Management, and Vestibular Diagnostics. Her research focuses on functional hearing complaints in Veterans with normal or near normal hearing from a diagnostic and intervention standpoint. Delia serves as an adjunct faculty member at California State University, Northridge where she teaches the next generation of Audiologists in the Communication Disorders & Sciences department.

Why Not Just Louder? Aiding Patients with Severe and Profound Hearing Loss

Dr. Nikolas Klakow is the Senior Audiology & Education Manager for Phonak. He received his education from Emerson College, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Salus University. He spent his early years in clinical practices, including hospital and ENT/dispensing office settings.
Since 2002 he has been working for hearing instrument manufacturers in sales and training. In 2010 he began studying Motivational Interviewing and has been conducting workshops on that topic at clinics around the country. He has presented at regional and national conventions, has been published in trade journals, and is coauthor of the children’s book: “Patrick Gets Hearing Aids”. He has also taken part in mission trips to Guatemala, testing children, fitting hearing aids, and training local clinicians.

Dr. Amanda Levy is a clinical and educational audiologist specializing in diagnosis and treatment of auditory processing disorder. She opened a private practice, Levy Audiology, in 2022.
Dr. Levy works with children and adults throughout California to provide auditory processing services in-person in North County San Diego, and virtually throughout the state. She is proud of the hybrid clinic she has built and sees patients in her office, in their schools, virtually, and occasionally in their homes!
She began her time with CAA as a student volunteer while earning her Au.D. through SDSU/UCSD (Class of 2013) and has since served several times on the CAA Fundraising Committee.

Sol Marghzar, Au.D, CCCA, certified by the American Board of Audiology has been an audiologist since 1993. Dr. Marghzar was one of the members of the Tinnitus task force the American Academy of Audiology formed to develop Guidelines for Evaluation & Management of tinnitus, published in 2004.
His special interest in treatment of tinnitus and hyperacusis encouraged him to receive training from Dr. Pawel Jastreboff at the University of Maryland in 1997 and Jonathan Hazell, MD. His Practice concentrates on Tinnitus, Hyperacusis and Misophonia. Sol is a non-paid member of the scientific advisory board for Neuromod, and teaches a tinnitus course at the California State University, Los Angeles since 2024.

Dr. Novick’s areas of expertise include dispensing hearing aids, auditory rehabilitation, counseling and management of tinnitus, hyperacusis, and misophonia. Dr. Novick believes in using evidenced based best practices, including real-ear verification and validation performance to ensure an individual’s success and satisfaction with hearing aids. Dr. Novick is licensed by the Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology and Hearing Aid Dispensers Board of California. She holds a board certification from the American Board of Audiology, as well as certificates in Tinnitus Management and Clinical Preceptorship. Paul Sanchez

Paul Sanchez was appointed Executive Officer to the Speech-Language Pathology, Audiology, and Hearing Aid Dispensers Board in June 2014. Under his direction, the Board made significant legislative and regulatory changes to improve consumer protection. Under his leadership, the Board also recently completed a long-anticipated business modernization project with that included a paperless application system which allows applicants to apply for licensure online and track the status of their application.
Prior to his appointment, Mr. Sanchez helped guide the California Veterinary Medical Board through an organizational assessment and change that restructured its licensing, enforcement, and hospital inspection program. Mr. Sanchez also worked for the California State Teachers Retirement System for over 12 years in Client Outreach and Guidance overseeing several projects that enhanced member education through web services, counseling, and workshops.

Dr. Robert M. Traynor practiced at Audiology Associates, Inc., in Greeley, Colorado, providing diagnostic & rehabilitative treatment for hearing loss/tinnitus patients of all ages & operative monitoring for otolaryngologists & general surgeons. Dr. Traynor is well known for his contributions to the field of audiology as a professor, consultant, clinician, and practice manager for over 49 years. In 2019, he began Robert Traynor Audiology, LLC, where he provides professional advice & consulting to the hearing industry and Forensic Audiology services, serving routinely as an expert witness in legal cases.
He holds degrees from the University of Northern Colorado, B.A, MA., Ed.D.), the University of Phoenix (MBA), and Postdoctoral Study in Audiology, Northwestern University. He served 21 years, U.S. Army Reserve as a military audiologist retiring as Lt. Colonel in 1998.
Academically, Dr. Traynor served as Associate Professor of Audiology at the University of Northern Colorado & Professor/Audiology Program Director, Colorado State University. He was Senior International Audiology Consultant for a major hearing aid company providing audiology training worldwide. He was part of the Audiology adjunct faculty at the University of Florida from 1999-2020 and is currently Adjunct Professor of Audiology at University of Arkansas/Medical Sciences, Rush University, and Salus University. In 2019, Dr. Traynor received the Joel Wernick Award from the Academy of Doctors of Audiology, 2018, Distinguished Alumnus: University of Northern Colorado, 2017 was inducted as Fellow of the National Academies of Practice and is the recipient of the 2014 Colorado Academy of Audiology Lifetime Achievement Award.

Dr. Amy White has served in numerous roles in government service. First serving as a Subject Matter Expert in Audiology for the California Department of Consumer Affairs beginning in 2016. Then, in 2022 she was appointed by the Governor of California to serve as a board member, and is now vice chair of, the Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology & Hearing Aid Dispensers’ Board. Dr. White currently leads care for all veterans in Northern California as the Service Chief for Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology at the Northern California VA Healthcare System.
She has had a broad career working at large otology practices, opening, and managing her own private practice, serving as the clinic director at the University of the Pacific, and serving at Sacramento State as an instructor and clinic coordinator. Dr. White has volunteered as a member of the California State University Sacramento’s advisory board in preparation for the opening of the Au.D. program, and spent a decade serving in multiple roles on the board of directors for the California Academy of Audiology. Dr. White is most proud to have mentored numerous students in audiology throughout her career and to have built a large network of peers throughout the field of audiology and education.
She earned her doctorate (Au.D.) from Utah State University and her bachelor’s degree from California State University Sacramento.

Priya Dhillon grew up in Punjab, India. She graduated magna cum laude from San Jose State University and received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Biological Sciences. She is currently enrolled in the Doctor of Audiology program at San Jose State University. She is completing her fourth year externship with Kaiser, Santa Clara. Her interests include humanitarian work and research.

Influence of COVID-19 on Peripheral and Central Auditory Function in College Adults
Steven C. Huezo is from Norwalk, Ca., and a third-year audiology student in the San Diego State University and University of California, San Diego joint doctoral program. Steven is the current Treasurer of the Student Academy of Audiology of San Diego and a California Academy of Audiology student representative. He is the founder of Silver Linings Audiometry, a for-purpose organization that aims to provide free hearing screenings for children in private schools while allowing undergraduates to gain real-world experience using their school audiometry license. Steven is a member of the Auditory Physiology and Psychoacoustics Laboratory and has aspirations of pursuing a career in pediatrics and research. In the summer of 2024, he begins his 4th year externship at Rady Children's Hospital.

Prevalence of Noise-Related Health Risks in Dental Professionals
Samantha Rodriguez is a Doctor of Audiology student at University of the Pacific. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Speech-Language Pathology from California State University, San Marcos. Samantha was given the opportunity to conduct research at University of the Pacific to explore the noise levels emitted from various dental tools and the association of hearing loss found in dental professionals. She is currently completing her externship at University of Southern California Caruso Family Center. Samantha looks forward to continuing her career in pediatrics.
