Governor Newsome signs SB 331 into Law

We are pleased to announce that Senate Bill (SB) 331, the Let California Kids Hear Act, authored by Senator Caroline Menjivar was signed into law on September 30, 2026, by Governor Gavin Newsom. This law requires large group health care service plans and health insurance policies to cover medically necessary hearing aids and related services for enrollees under 21 years of age. This is a huge win for all children and families with individuals with hearing loss.

Sincere thanks to Senator Menjivar and her co-authors, Senators Josh Becker, Mia Bonta, Jessica Caloza, Megan Dahle, Jeff Gonzalez, Roger Niello, Darshana Patel, and Pilar Schiavo for their leadership and support in getting this important legislation passed.

We are deeply grateful to Governor Newsom for recognizing the importance of this legislation and the critical role that access to hearing aids plays in helping children with hearing loss thrive.

We also extend our heartfelt thanks to the team at Let California Kids Hear, Nick Brokaw, Esq. of Sacramento Advocates, CAA Legislative Liaisons, Linda Farrow, Au.D., and Marcia Raggio, Ph.D., and the CAA Legislative Committee for their tireless advocacy, expertise, and commitment.
