President's Message 2013

A Message From CAA President Tracy Peck, Au.D.

On behalf of the Board of Directors, welcome to CAA!  It is an honor and my pleasure to serve as your president for 2013.  As an organization, we have already hit the ground running on the legislative front and are committed to finding solutions that preserve and protect the best interests of California audiologists.

For those of you I haven’t had the opportunity to meet yet, I am an East Coast transplant and my BA, MA and Au.D. are from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Buffalo.  My 4th year externship brought me to a non-profit, hearing and speech center in San Francisco, where I still work and live today.  I now call California home, although I remain a loyal Buffalo Bills fan!

This is my fifth year serving on the CAA Board, and in that time, I have seen a tremendous amount of growth and accomplishment for our organization.  Our membership has grown by 20% in the last year, we had the largest number of attendees at our 2012 conference in Berkeley and we are consistently meeting the goals of our legislative agenda:

  1. eliminating dual licensure,
  2. regulation of audiology aides, and
  3. successfully lobbying against legislation that would have mandated audiologists to inappropriately present all communication options to parents of children with hearing loss, regardless of type and degree.

Now, more than ever, there is a need for California audiologists to get involved! Together, we are a strong and unified voice.  This year, we will continue our member-get-a-member campaign.  I pledge to participate again and I sincerely hope all of you will join me- recruit and refer a friend or colleague to CAA as a new member and receive a $65 discount on registration for our annual conference or membership renewal dues.  Membership retention and mentoring Au.D. students as well as newly licensed audiologists are vital to the success of our organization.

Our members have consistently provided positive feedback regarding our legislative and conference/education efforts, but imagine the possibilities and the impact we will have as an organization, as our membership grows.  Please visit the CAA website (caaud.org), Facebook and Linked In group pages regularly to stay informed and involved with what’s happening in California audiology.  We will keep you updated and remain focused on meeting our goals.

My motto for this year is Team work makes the dream work!  I look forward to hearing from, and working with, all of you so we can Hear and Be Heard!!

Sincerely,

Tracy Peck, Au.D., FAAA
